A 1997 WOMEN’S HEALTH ZINE

My vagina
smells like
berries.

Is that normal?

Explore the answer ↓

Yes. Variation is the norm.

Vaginal scent shifts with diet, cycle, hydration, and even the fabric you wear. A sweet, berry-like note is frequently reported after eating strawberries, raspberries, or drinking certain herbal infusions. It is not a red flag on its own.

Common observations

  • Sweet berry after summer fruit
  • Light yogurt tang mid-cycle
  • Earthy warmth after exercise
  • Soft floral when well-hydrated

What you eat shows up.

Pineapple, citrus, and berries are classic culprits for sweeter notes. Garlic, onions, and strong spices tend toward the opposite. The change is usually subtle and temporary—lasting roughly 24–48 hours.
