Under the bed frame

The classic. Slide items into a flat, opaque box or zippered pouch. Most kids never look beneath the mattress unless they're retrieving a lost toy.

Pro move: Use a bed skirt that reaches the floor for extra camouflage.

Back of the linen closet

Place items inside an old towel, then bury that towel at the very back. Children rarely dig past the first layer of sheets.

Locked nightstand drawer

A small padlock or hidden magnetic latch turns an ordinary drawer into a vault. Keep the key on your keyring.

Works best with a nightstand that sits low to the ground.

High shelf in the garage

Store items inside a clearly labeled "holiday decorations" box on the highest reachable shelf. Kids almost never climb that high.

Add a layer of actual holiday lights on top for authenticity.

One final rule

Never use the same spot twice in a row. Rotate locations every few weeks. Complacency is the enemy.
